Science

Our Science curriculum is designed with the following aims in mind:

Intent

• Children are expert scientists; making and testing predictions, planning and conducting investigations, developing a wider understanding of the world as a result

• Children enjoy science and are inquisitive

• They use scientific investigation to answer their own questions

• They understand how to make investigations reliable and valid

• They are confident using specific scientific vocabulary

Implementation

• Teachers create a positive attitude to science learning within their classrooms

• They reinforce an expectation that all pupils are capable of achieving high standards in science.

• Children are posed questions which are solved through practical scientific investigations

• The majority of time is spent conducting investigations rather than writing them up in detail

• Children learn key scientific knowledge and test this, or use it to prove a hypothesis or answer a question

Impact

The impact will be seen through:

• Children will demonstrate they have key scientific knowledge around each area of science

• They will be able to plan, conduct and evaluate reliable and valid investigations

• They will analyse data and test it to prove its accuracy

• They will have developed a wider understanding of the world
