Child Protection and Safeguarding
All North Yorkshire schools, including Barlby Community Primary School, follow the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Board procedures. We are fully committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all children in school.
In situations involving child wellbeing, we will, in most circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns or issues raised with parents about their child/children. There may, however, be exceptional circumstances in which the school will discuss concerns with Social Care and/or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures). The school will, of course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents.
The school’s child protection policy is available publicly here. The school’s child protection manual is available publicly here.
If you are concerned about a child, please see the relevant contact information below or telephone 01609 780780 and ask for a member of the children's social care team.
Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is a police and education early information safeguarding partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass ensures that there is a simple telephone call or notification to a school’s trained Designated Safeguarding Lead /Officer (known as key Adult) prior to the start of the next school day after an incident of police attended domestic abuse where there are children related to either of the adult parties involved.
Information is shared with a school’s Key Adult (Designated Safeguarding Lead or Officer) prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident. This sharing of information enables appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.

Online Safety
At Barlby CP School we all want our children to live in a safe and caring environment so that they can grow up to become happy, confident adults. You will already know that your children can be vulnerable to risks both inside and outside the home, and will have taken steps to protect them so they can grow, learn and develop to their fullest potential. Protecting children from dangers online is also very important and you can access some information below.
