History

Our History curriculum is designed with the following aims in mind:

Intent

  • Children will have a passion for History and studying the past.

  • They recognise the past influences our lives today.

  • History helps us make sense of the world in which we live.

  • That the society, in which we live, has been shaped by developments in the past.

Implementation

  • At Barlby CP school, we teach history following the National Curriculum Programme of Study document, which lays down a variety of approaches applicable to each unit of study.

  • History is taught through topics and wherever possible, links are made to other curriculum areas such as geography, literacy and art.

  • They will learn about the role of individuals, events and periods. By studying historical source material, artefacts, experiences and other resources the children will be encouraged to ask questions, deduce information and solve problems through an investigative approach.

  • Our history curriculum is planned, so that children’s knowledge, skills and subject specific vocabulary are built sequentially over time.

Impact

  • Children will be passionate when learning about history.

  • To understand Britain’s past from the Stone Age to 1066.

  • To recall key Historical periods and key facts/events.
