French
Our French curriculum is designed with the following aims in mind:
Intent
For children to enjoy learning and speaking another language
For children to be able to speak French in a range of contexts
Children will be able to understand written and spoken French, responding accurately with confidence
Pronunciation will be accurate
Implementation
The focus for all French teaching will be developing practical communication, appropriate to age and experience
Children are given regular opportunity to listen to French, including when it is spoken by native speakers
They will explore the language, developing intonation and pronunciation, through speaking, writing and singing
They will be taught to speak in pairs, groups and in front of others, reflecting their growing confidence
Children will develop an increasingly broad vocabulary
They will appreciate the difference in language structure from English, for example feminine and masculine form and verb endings
Impact
The impact will be seen through:
An enjoyment of practical communication in French
Confidence in reading, writing and particularly speaking in French
Children communicate clearly in French in a range of contexts
Accurate pronunciation
